Up and Coming Ieye Treasures Argentina Experience!

Up and coming Reggae artist Ieye says that her experience at the Pepsi Music Festival in Argentina is something she will never forget!

“There was just something different in the air. Everything and everybody seemed to be saying ‘welcome’. The language proved not to be a barrier as love and music are the universal language and there was plenty of that.  As we stepped off the plane and go through the airport is like a barrage of happiness greeted us,” Ieye said of her Argentina debut.

Another surprise was, along with reggae superstar Alborosie, she attended the launch of Rototom in Argentina. Ieye says that with the audience and the press’ reaction “it was like a show. Persons were in line to give us presents and do photographs. Imagine, people line up to give you something”.

“I am speechless... It was like crazy, crazy fun and overwhelming joy,” Ieye said, adding that she wants to go back to Argentina very soon. “I feel like Argentina is officially Ieye’s own now," she declared.

More on Ieye coming soon!  In the meantime, click on the song title to hear this newcomers chune "Mama's Hand."  Make sure you send on feedback so we can pass it on!

♠ HOTTTTT New Reggae! ♠ Gregory Isaacs ft. Suga Roy - Soon Forward!

Greetings!

One of the sweetest combinations I've heard
recently is that of Suga Roy and Gregory Isaacs
The chune is called "Soon Forward" and has
a bit of an interesting story to it.

The original was performed by Gregory in 1979
and was an instant hit.  Suga Roy always loved
the riddim and the chune and made it a mission
to one day perform on the riddim.

Fast forward to 2003, and this is where we find
Suga Roy and Gregory Isaacs in the studio recording
the updated version of "Soon Forward."

The location was Bobby Digital's studio at 8 Ron's
Road in Jamaica, and the vibes were at a high.
Suga re-licked the riddim and that was all Gregory
needed to hear.

Laying down smooth and sweet vocals, Gregory
romanced the riddim with his lyrics.  Suga, gave
the chune some grit with his DJ style and the rest
is history.  The two artists play off of the punchline
'turn me on' making this chune a renewed classic!

Broadcasting at 320kbps and being released for the
first time since its recording, catch Gregory Isaacs
and Suga Roy with the chune "Soon Forward" here:

This song will be debuted with Sir Daddy D on

Strong Women in Independent Song!

Greetings!

Women like Marcia Griffiths, Phyllis Dillon
and JC Lodge helped to pave the way for younger
artists in and out of Jamaica.  These women and
more became icons who inspired a whole new
generation to add their voice to song!

Today's blog note focuses on three younger women
who have been inspired in song.  Ammoye and
Empress Minott are from Jamaica (living in
Canada) and Dionne Blaize comes the US via
Grenada, and all are connected through song.

Below is a snapshot to each artist, and download
link to their music.  Feedback is always welcome!

Kid Kut 'Hard Rocks' Canadian Artists!

Depending on how long you've been a part of the Canadian music scene, you would know that one of the foremost movers and shakers in the country is Kid Kut.

The masses first came to know KK as one fourth of the Baby Blue Sound Crew who was signed to Universal.  Others knew Kid as a selecter, party hype man, talent finder, talent promoter, and a combination of all of the above.

Still very much involved with the music scene, Kid Kut has a new project that he's pushing, and it's one that we so-sign to the fullest!  The project is called Gift of Music which takes place at the Hard Rock Cafe (279 Yonge Street, Toronto) on December 2nd, 2010 which is a night of music entertainment by some of Canada's best talent including Melanie Durrant, Kim Davis, Ray Robinson and Saukrates.  Proceeds earned goes towards MusiCounts Canada with the goal of supporting up and coming talent who want to pursue a career in music!  Nice!

Team L3 will be in the building for this awesome night.  We'll be walking with a sharpie pen for autographs on our CD's which we've been collecting over the years (you can't have an artist sign an MP3 file right?!)!

More details below.  Make sure you're there with us!

Canada Wide Music Charts - Week Ending October 29th, 2010

Canada’s music movers continue to make changes to the music charts which shows that a secure position this week can change in the next week.  Case in point is Beenie Man ft. Future Fambo and the song “Rum and Redbull.”  That song was non-existent on the charts last week, and this week makes a debut at #2, putting all other songs in disarray.

Romain Virgo’s “Dark Skin Girl” made nice strides affecting Odel Johnson’s #2 claim, as did T.I. ft. Chris Brown and the song “Get Back Up” which debuts on the R&B charts at the #2 position.

Please note:  A song becomes a new entry if voted in by the DJ’s.

The charts are compiled by votes from Radio personalities in Vancouver, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia (the equivalent of saying California to New York).  Each DJ’s vote carries a weight of 60% of a songs ranking on the charts.  After the DJ’s cast their votes, voting is then opened to artists, managers and fans which holds a weight of 40% of the songs ranking on the charts.

Below are the charts for each genre for the week ending October 29th, 2010.  If you have any questions, send us an e-mail!

►►► Throwback Thursday! ►►► Playing in the Playground That's 2 Hard!

Greetings!

As a child I was very troublesome, and the
trouble always came out in the playground!
I always had questions which meant I always
had a story to tell which meant I always had
information.

One day, a classmate asked me a question
about another classmate and I refused to
answer.  Lawd!  Ruption in the sandbox to
the point that teachers had to be called in.
The result, the playground became off limits
to the classmate!

In Dancehall, the Playground riddim is accessible
to all, and featured performances by artists
who later became the best in their genre!
Who could forget Mr. Vegas and "Nike Air,"
the Destiny's Child remix for "No No No" or
Beenie Man's world famous "Sim Simma?!"

Produced by Jeremy Harding in 1997 for his
2 Hard label, the riddim was the highlight of any
dance in any country making the producer one
of the youngest to go international!

Honorebel mentions go to Sean Paul with the
chune "Infiltrate" as well as Admiral T and the
chune "Rapid" where he flows in English and
French.  Maddd!

Broadcasting at 320kbps, catch cuts from the
Playground Riddim here:

Fast Fact:  Jeremy Harding studied music production
at Toronto's Trebas Institute who rank him as
one of their most accomplished graduates!

Lots of 'Transitions'!

Greetings!

Although we are still mourning the loss of the
Cool Ruler, Mr. Gregory Isaacs, there were a
few 'transitions' that took place in our industry
that should be celebrated!

Congratulations to Ms. Rhona Fox who is now
head of VP Records Publicity department.  VP
definitely got it right!

Congratulations to Bottom Feeder, a.k.a. Mr.
Scott Lewis who has now become VP of Promotions
for So So Def.  He works alongside Jermaine
Dupri, and is responsible for the promotion of
the companies catalog.

When one rises, we all rise!  I predict Riddimstream
will be next!  :)

DJ Blanco called me up yesterday to find out
why I was offline.  Hearing my voice, he said
"chick, you gotta do somethin about dat flu.  I
might ketch it ova da phone, an dat ain't cool!"
To cheer me up, he sent me the Transitions riddim,
the Reggae version of the riddim which is certified
MADDDDD!

Produced by Wundah of Blessed Youth Entertainment,
each artist on the riddim is perfectly matched,
giving us a party vibe, conscious vibe and love
vibe.  The structure of the riddim is a simple
4 chord, accented by a piano riff, mild drum
pattern and off beat hand clap.  There is a bassline,
but it's so smooth, you hardly notice it until
you've listened to the riddim a couple of times.

The artist line up is a group of unknowns which
doesn't matter as they each lay down certified
platinum vocals making the success of the riddim
a surety!  Catch the riddim here:  Transitions Riddim

Remembering Gregory 'Cool Ruler' Isaacs...

Greetings...

Today, October 25th, 2010, we have lost anotherReggae legend, Mr. Gregory 'Cool Ruler' Isaacs. The world is in shock and mourning as we werehoping he would recover and overcome his battlewith cancer.  The last reports from the UK, andthe words of Copeland Forbes, Gregory's Manager, gave us reason to believe he should be ok.

Gregory has left us with a catalog of music that are considered classic Reggae which will be playedfor the rest of time.  Songs like "Night Nurse," "Number One" and "Tune In" have always beenfan favourites.  "Rumours," on the Rumours riddimis an absolute classic, as is "Love Overdue" whichwas Gregory's first #1 on the Jamaican charts.  Theyear was 1974, but sounds as sweet as if recorded yesterday!

Some of the producers Gregory has worked with over the years include Gussie Clarke, Lloyd Campbell,Lee 'Scratch' Perry, and Phillip 'Fattis' Burrell toname a few, in addition to Alvin Ranglin who produced"Love Overdue."

Due to Gregory's heavy drug use, it became difficult to understand what he was saying, and didn't speak much.  His music spoke for him.  The opening of Gregory's chune "My Pride Won'tLet Me Tell You" on the Far East riddim says whatI think he would say to us if he could which is:

'my pride won't let me tell you how much I miss
you yeah / but deep down I do...'

CHRISTOPHER MARTIN AND GENTLEMAN TO TOUR EUROPE

Jamaican music sensation Christopher Martin heads to Europe this winter for 5 solo shows and then joins European reggae star Gentleman as they embark on a multi-city European tour in November and December.

Christopher Martin and Gentleman have seen significant success in their careers as individual artiste but recently teamed up and merged their solo success and created a number one hit song called To The Top.  The video, shot in Marrakech, Morocco saw the two blending their musical styles with the captivating backdrop of the ancient city.  And this November Christopher Martin and Gentleman will further emphasize their collaborative genius on stages all over Europe.

Christopher Martin will start his tour of Europe, solo, for five shows beginning on October 30 in Mannheim, Germany. Martin then moves to Cologne, Germany on November 2, Oslo in Norway on November 5, back to Cologne on November 6 and finally in Helsinki, Finland on November 7.  The intensity of the tour will increase when Martin joins Gentleman on his Diversity tour from November 18 to December 22. This is the second leg of the tour with the fist leg, a six-week summer tour, being sold. out The upcoming tour will see Christopher Martin and Gentleman taking the stage in 9 countries for 22 shows. The two will perform in Germany, Switzerland, France, Holland, Spain, Luxemburg, Poland, Macedonia, and the Czech Republic.

Gentleman’s latest album Diversity entered the German Album Charts directly in pole position. This year MTV pays tribute to the artist and, for the first time, Gentleman is nominated in the category "Best German Artist" for the MTV European Music Awards in Madrid on November 11, 2010.

Asked how he feels about being part of such a high profile tour, Christopher Martin says he is glad for the chance to show the world his music: “I am really happy for this opportunity, the song I did with Gentleman has really opened many doors for me and this tour will open more doors. I have never been on a tour of this magnitude, I know it will be a challenge but I am ready for it, keeping fit and getting ready to give the European fans my all.”

Christopher Martin, who has notched up numerous hits both in Europe and Jamaica, is now considered one of the new crop of stars who will carry on the legacy of Jamaican music in Europe.

►►► Classic Friday! ►►► Not Bye But Py!

Greetings!

Continuing with the exploration of riddims
from the 1980's, sees this Classic Friday
feature the Py Py Love riddim!

Produced by Oswald ‘Ossie’ Hibbert for
his own label Ossie Hibbert Productions, the
riddim is light and sweet, and features the
vocals of Bunny General, Little Twitch,
Ninjaman and Frankie Paul to name a few.
Py Py, according to Little Twitch (who named
the riddim), is a type of love a man receives
from a girl who doesn't respect a man due
to his not having money, cars, house and the
like.

The Py Py Love riddim has a nice 'rock an
come een' vibe which will bring back sweet
memories for audiences who went out when
'dance was nice!'

Ossie Hibbert grew in the Reggae industry
as a keyboard player for the Professionals,
The Aggrovators and the Revolutionaries.
He's recorded several albums, and has worked
with artists Gregory Isaacs, Johnny Clarke
and Linval Thompson.  Later in his career,
Ossie worked as a producer for Channel One
