The Robin Thick Theory #InstantVintage2

It's safe to say that Robin Thicke is the man right about now. He's got an international hit on his hands with the song "Blurred Lines," which is still going strong months after dropping in March and has fans from eight to eighty (despite the sketchy subject matter). But "Blurred Lines" isn't Thicke's first time at the rodeo.

On July 30th he'll release his sixth album, and what better way to celebrate this occasion and his revitalized career than with a retrospective of his past work? And who better to do just that than DJ Trauma and DJ Mars who took a stroll through Robin's catalog to hook up The Robin Thicke Theory, the second mixtape in their #InstantVintage series in association with SoulBounce. If you loved what Trauma and Mars did with their Raphael Saadiq The Sounds of Saadiq #InstantVintage mixtape, then you are going to lose your mind when you press play on this joint right here. These two World Famous Super Friends curated selections from all of Thicke's albums -- from singles to album cuts -- alongside remixes and interview clips to create a mix that you'll keep in heavy rotation. Check the full tracklist after the bounce to see what goodness is in store. Get into the groove of The Robin Thicke Theory right here, and avail yourself of the mixtape with the free download right now.

L3 Magazine February Issue ft. Patrice Roberts

February, 2013 has shaped up to be one of the most exciting for fans and lovers of Soca!  As Carnival season is upon us, Team L3 traveled to Trinidad & Tobago to speak one of the industries hottest talents, Ms. Patrice Roberts!

Interviewed by Tricia ‘ZJ Sparks’ Spence, Patrice opens up on an intimate level as she shares some of the pressures and stresses she faced as a newbie to the business while learning from the master of modern day Soca, Machel Montano.  The artist also gives us a peak into her work out regiment which keeps her in fabulous shape.

What did Patrice say when Sparks asked “Your beauty is rather unique, has any modeling agency approached you or designers to model their line?”

Dawn Richard is no stranger to the spotlight.  Being in P. Diddy’s group Danity Kane, she was front and centre with the Rap mogul and didn’t disappoint.  With the group dismantling, Dawn has found incredible success as a solo artist.

Interviewed by the UK’s Portia Clarke, Dawn explains her new sound and her reasoning behind calling her fans ‘Hearts.’  She also explains why being an independent artist without a label was a blessings in disguise, giving her more bargaining power.

Readers will appreciate Dawn’s intelligence as she tells Portia “Usually when an artist is coming out and they have an album, which gets the response, but for us to have an EP and get this, it was great.  With the distribution deal, it worked out better because we have more of the sales revenue and don’t have to go through a middle person which is the label who would take more money, and change the direction of what we wanted to accomplish….”

Rounding out the interviews, Heike takes a trip to the Bahamas to speak to Peter Runks who arguably is the #1 Reggae export from the island.  Peter is open and candid as he shares his experiences in the industry and the support he’s received from home and abroad.

Our International DJ feature is none other than Trinidad & Tobago’s Kaotic International!  As February is Black History Month, we explore the offerings of Music Africa in Toronto, and as it’s also the month of Love, Canada’s leading songstress, Ammoye, rocks lover’s Valentine’s Day with her HOTTT new singles.

We have charts, the hottest Valentine’s Day couples, beauty features, music marketing 101 and hot new releases.  All this and more at www.L3Magazine.com!

Chantelle Ernandez - Gimme What's Mine!

13 tracks for this fusion artist who has skillfully combined her Reggae roots with R&B, Soul and a pinch of Dance sounds here and a dash of Bollywood style there
After a very busy winter and summer season on promotional tour in Europe with Chantelle Ernandez, in Jamaica launching Malijah's album and recording some succulent new tunes for future releases, Reggaeland is happy to finally and officially announce (with a little delay on the online stores that beat us) the release of the much anticipated debut album ofChantelle Ernandez 'Gimme What's Mine'.

As rumors already suggested, this young veteran of the Reggae industry delivered a very colorful piece of work: on the 13 tracks Chantelle has skillfully combined her Reggae roots with an R&B and Soul touch here, a pinch of Dance sounds there and even a dash of Bollywood style, defining herself as a Reggae artist with a Fusion twist.
But it's really also the lyrics that determine the album and the artist. Consciousness and social awareness are taken to their fullest extent through the successful singles 'Reggae Reasoning' and 'If Women World', and the new tunes 'Songs Of Redemption' about the state of things of her beloved Jamaica; 'Take Dem Down', an up-front social condemnation of sex related crimes; 'Love Can Heal The World' a lucid interpretation about the faults of our society; 'The Change'- in combination with Dutch artist Joggo - about the hope for a better world.

Chantelle's sensitive side also emerges from her love tunes as 'Touch', 'You All The Time', 'Sweet Spanish Man', while the title track 'Gimme What's Mine' has a clear reference not only to the content of the song, but also to her expectations regards this album.

Chantelle Ernandez is ready to take over the Jamaican music industry and set a bench-mark for new generations of female artists in a country that has given women scarcely any attention.
Sky is the limit!

R. Kelly's 11th Studio Album News!

Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and producer R. KELLY, will release his 11th studio album, Write Me Back, on June 26TH* (RCA). Write Me Back will be available in Standard and Deluxe editions; the latter will include 4 bonus tracks, while the physical version will have special packaging that will include a postcard for fans to actually write R. Kelly back. Both versions of the album will be available for pre-order on May 29th at select retailers.

“Share My Love,” the album’s first single, recently grabbed the #1 spot at Urban Adult radio. Kelly’s newly released second single, “Feelin’ Single,” described as “classic Kelly, full of infectious hooks and buttery smooth grooves” (Prefixmag.com), will impact Urban Adult radio on May 21st and 22nd. The single will be available for purchase at all digital providers on May 29th.

Write Me Back is the follow up to 2010’s critically acclaimed Love Letter, which celebrated the music of the 50s and 60s. The new album represents the natural progression of Kelly’s musical time machine, recalling the sultry and seductive sounds associated with such icons as Barry White, Marvin Gaye and Teddy Pendergrass, among others. Like its Love Letter predecessor, Write Me Back is also a celebration of love.

From classic R&B to hip-hop, inspirational to gospel, no other artist has covered the vast array of human emotions more than R. Kelly. With a track record that boasts over 40 million albums sold worldwide, 6 #1 albums, 11 #1 singles, 3 Grammy Awards, 8 Soul Train Awards, 6 American Music Awards and 6 Billboard Music Awards, R. Kelly has rightfully earned his title as the undisputed “King of R&B.” In 2011, Billboard named R. Kelly the #1 most successful R&B artists of the last 25 years! When not in the spotlight, Kelly has written and produced hit songs for Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Maxwell, Britney Spears and countless others. More recently, Kelly was tapped to write and produce original music for the upcoming Sparkle soundtrack.

LA Reid Head of Epic Records

From eurweb.com

Antonio “L.A.” Reid was officially named head of Epic Records on Monday, a long-expected move that was first reported in June.

Reid — who will also serve as a judge on Simon Cowell’s singing competition show “The X Factor” this fall — will carry the title of chairman-CEO. He previously headed Island Def Jam from 2004 to 2011.

The move has been seen as inevitable since March, when Reid stepped down from his chairman position at IDJ.

Epic Records, which has first dibs on “X Factor” performers, is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. The label is expected to merge with Jive Records, which Reid will also oversee, according to Reuters.

Big Sean - Finally Famous - In Stores Today!

Big Sean's album, Finally Famous drops today!  Team L3 hears that the album includes collaborations with Nas, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Whiz Khalifa and more; not too bad for a debut album!

An unauthorized leak of his collaboration with Drake, called "Made" made its way onto the internet on April 30, 2010. In an interview with TheHipHopUpdate.com on May 1, Big Sean expressed his disappointment over the leak, calling it an unfinished version both musically and verse wise. Big Sean's official Facebook page confirmed that his debut album Finally Famous & Consequence's Cons TV would be released on September 14, 2010. On August 31, Big Sean tweeted that the album was not coming out on that day, but it would be coming out sometime in 2011.

In a recent interview on Conspiracy Worldwide Radio, he discussed the role Kanye West and No I.D. have had in the development of the album's sonic direction as well as the challenges of being inside the studio with West.

The album's lead single My Last, features vocals from Chris Brown and is produced by No I.D.

Why We Love R. Kelly...

I have always been a fan of R. Kelly's.  From the time he dropped his first album, 12 Play, I was there.  Many people wonder why I love R. Kelly as much as I do so here is the answer.  The year was 2003, and it was the year that my boyfriend of 4 years, the man I was supposed to marry, the man I had plans to buy a home with, the man who was going to give me children, all of a sudden, with no warning, decided to be with someone else.

The hurt I experienced was a shock to my system.  I went from 180 pounds to 150 in a week.  I went to sleep crying, I woke up crying, and couldn’t keep anything in my system. R. Kelly’s music changed that.

It began with the song “Chocolate Factory” in which Kells begins with the words ‘baby, there’s nobody like you, you’re a really good friend….’  As if by magic, I was taken from my heart break, and put on a journey that encouraged me to leave behind the ex boyfriend, and look forward to the future.  R. Kelly comforted me, he brought healing to me, and he encouraged me, not even knowing who I was, or that I even existed.

After listening to the album, including the bonus album (the song “Far More” is my favourite), I knew I was going to be ok, and I knew I was going to get through my personal tragedy, and I knew R. Kelly understood me.  All of this through the power of song(s).  You see, R. Kelly’s music became the doctor that performed surgery giving my body what it needed to gain its’ own strength so that its’ healing could be complete, and life could be restored and made better.

I have since spoken to other women around the world who have shared their stories, some of which are similar to mine, and all have come to the common conclusion that R. Kelly is for Women.  He understands us and sings to us and for us.

There will only ever be one R. Kelly.  No matter what he faces in life, his fans will always be there with him and for him because he was there for us.  I can’t go any further without saying, we all have to thank DJ Wayne Williams for signing Kells.  If it wasn’t for Wayne, we wouldn’t know this incredible entertainer the way we do.  I thank Wayne just as much as I thank Kelly’s parents for creating his life.

Thank you Kells.  On behalf of the millions of women and people around the world you’ve touched, thank you!
