The Recording Academy® (www.grammy.com) announced its Special Merit Awards recipients today, and this year's selections are: Allman Brothers Band, Glen Campbell, Antonio Carlos Jobim, George Jones, the Memphis Horns, Diana Ross and Gil Scott-Heron as Lifetime Achievement Award recipients; Dave Bartholomew, Steve Jobs and Rudy Van Gelder as Trustees Award honorees; and Celemony and Roger Nichols as Technical GRAMMY Award®honorees. The special invitation-only ceremony will be held during GRAMMY® Week on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, and a formal acknowledgment will be made during the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast, which will be held at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, and broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network. "This year's honorees offer a variety of brilliance, contributions and lasting impressions on our culture," said President/CEO of The Recording Academy Neil Portnow. "It is an honor to recognize such a diverse group of individuals whose talents and achievements have had an indelible impact on our industry."

The Lifetime Achievement Award honors performers who have made contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording while the Trustees Award recognizes such contributions in areas other than performance. Both awards are determined by vote of The Recording Academy's National Board of Trustees. Technical GRAMMY Award recipients are determined by vote of The Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing Advisory Council and Chapter Committees as well as The Academy's Trustees. The award is presented to individuals and companies who have made contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field.

About the Lifetime Achievement Award Honorees:
As pioneers of Southern rock, the Allman Brothers Band created a unique sound blending elements of blues, country, jazz and rock. Known for their outstanding improvisational and jam-style shows, the band's breakthrough album, 1971's At Fillmore East, is a definitive live concert recording. The band has achieved artistic and commercial success with hits such as "Whipping Post," "Ramblin' Man" and "Jessica," the latter having earned them a 1995 GRAMMY for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. In 1995 the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

During his 50-plus years in show business, five-time GRAMMY winner Glen Campbell has released more than 70 albums. In 1967 he won GRAMMYs in both country and pop categories for his hits "Gentle On My Mind" and "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," respectively. Campbell has three recordings in the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame and has also been inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the famed Wrecking Crew, Los Angeles' group of top studio musicians in the '60s. In 2011 he released his farewell album, Ghost On The Canvas, which featured collaborations with Jakob Dylan, Chris Isaak and Billy Corgan, among others.

Widely known as the composer of the GRAMMY-winning "The Girl From Ipanema," arranger, singer and pianist/guitarist Antonio Carlos Jobim* was influential in the creation of the Brazilian bossa nova style and its international popularity. His songs and arrangements have been performed by numerous artists around the world. In 1995 he won a posthumous Best Latin Jazz Performance GRAMMY for his album Antonio Brasileiro.

Trumpeter Wayne Jackson and tenor saxophonist Andrew Love comprise one of the greatest and most recorded horn sections, the Memphis Horns. Early in their career, the duo appeared on nearly every Stax Records recording, helping the label define its sound. Known for their unique funk/soul style, the Musicians Hall of Fame inductees have appeared on recordings for artists such as Al Green, Elvis Presley, Otis Redding, and U2.

As one of the most prolific country artists in history, George Jones has had more than 150 hits over his half-century career. From honky tonk to country ballads, he has remained at the top of the charts with hits such as "White Lightning," "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "Still Doin' Time." Jones is a two-time GRAMMY winner, Country Music Hall of Fame inductee and a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. At 80 years old, he continues to tour, playing more than 60 shows each year.

In the 1960s Diana Ross led Motown act the Supremes, one of America's most successful vocal groups. In the 1970s, Ross began her solo career and had continued success with hits such as "Love Hangover," "Upside Down" and "Missing You." In her nearly 50 years in the entertainment business, she has sold more than 100 million albums and has received a number of accolades for her work, including a Golden Globe and Tony Award and has been a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. Ross recently toured the country with her More Today Than Yesterday tour and will continue touring into 2012.

With his unique fusion of jazz, blues and spoken word, Gil Scott-Heron*'s music influenced the creation of the rap genre. The first artist signed to Arista Records, his recordings such as "Johannesburg" and "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" were known for their sharp lyrics that commented on social and political issues. His songs also helped tell stories of African-Americans in the United States. Scott-Heron continued to record up until his death in 2011, releasing his most recent album, I'm New Here, in 2010.

About the Trustees Award Honorees:
Musician, bandleader, composer, and arranger Dave Bartholomew has had an illustrious career in music spanning genres such as big band, swing and rock and roll. Together with Fats Domino, he wrote more than 40 hits in the 1950s, including Billboard chart toppers "Goin' Home" and "Ain't That A Shame." He produced, wrote and arranged for a number of artists, including Elvis Presley, Rick Nelson and Chuck Berry — each of whom topped the charts with Bartholomew's songs. He has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Though semiretired, he continues to occasionally perform with the Dave Bartholomew Big Band at music festivals.

As former CEO and co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs* helped create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books. A creative visionary, Jobs' innovations such as the iPod and its counterpart, the online iTunes store, revolutionized the industry and how music was distributed and purchased. In 2002 Apple Computer Inc. was a recipient of a Technical GRAMMY Award for contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field. The company continues to lead the way with new technology and in-demand products such as the iPhone and iPad.

As one of music's greatest recording engineers, Rudy Van Gelder has recorded several thousand jazz sessions with artists including John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk among many others. His signature techniques give recordings a rich, natural tone and capture the sonic textures of each instrument. Van Gelder continues his more than half- century-long career freelancing on projects, including remastering the analog Blue Note label recordings he worked on decades ago.

About the Technical GRAMMY Recipients:
The German-based company Celemony was founded in 2000 by Peter Neubäcker, Dr. Hildegard Sourgens and Casrsten Gehle. The company specializes in the digital audio pitch-correction software known as Melodyne. The tool is used in studios to tune and manipulate audio signals, including a singer's vocals, or as an aid to the creation of backing vocals from an existing lead vocal. In 2008 Celemony debuted Direct Note Access, which allows independent manipulation of individual notes with chords and polyphonic recordings. The following year, Melodyne Editor won a Musikmesse International Press Award for Most Innovative Product.

Audio engineer Roger Nichols* worked with artists such as Plácido Domingo, Diana Ross, James Taylor, and Stevie Wonder. In the 1970s he began a decades-long relationship with Steely Dan, which earned him six GRAMMY Awards including an Album Of The Year award for his engineering work on 2000's Two Against Nature. He also earned a Best Musical Album For Children GRAMMY in 1997 for producing the John Denver album All Aboard! In addition to his work as an engineer, he was an innovator in creating new technology for audio tape preservation, mastering and digital synchronization. A pioneer in the technique of digital drum replacement, his Wendel sampling computer is a technology still common in music production today.

*Denotes posthumous.

Junior X Feel Success with Album

Reggae’s Prince of the Battlefield, Junior X Tours
With Release of his Plead My Cause Album

Recording artist, and Reggae Prince of the Battlefield, Junior X tours with the release of his sophomore album, Plead My Cause on the Revolutionary Entertainment record label.

The 15 track disk which was released May, 2011, featuring collaborations with Reggae royalty such as Queen IFrica and Gyptian, and has been touted as one of the best Reggae albums for 2011.  The album, which also features music production from Dennis Livingston of Revolutionary Entertainment, Paul Lowe-Chin of Chiney K Productions and Ezroy Francis of Mixing Lab, keeps the spirit of Roots Reggae at the forefront for listeners.

Since the albums release, Junior X has travelled to California, Boston, Delaware and Philadelphia, giving the artist an opportunity to connect with fans as he shares his messages of hope and upliftment.

The albums lead single, “Not Afraid to Live” was written by X himself.  Known for making songs that plead the cause of the people, X’s lyrics hit home when he says "This life is like a free wave/ just let it come / just let it go / I faced this life the hard way / until I learn to let it flow / the record shows I took the blows / been through life's highs and lows ...."  The melody that accompanies the lyrics replicate that of the heart beat in unison with the chant of the drum, only in place of the drum, the bass guitar is used creating a pulse that connects the lyrics to the music. Radio jock DJ Sparks says “this is a good song from Junior X who typically delivers substantive lyrics for the people.”

Moving with the momentum of the feedback to “Not Afraid to Live,” Junior X will be releasing his follow up single “You Saved Me” which features Alborosie.  The two artists make equally powerful music, and chose this time to collaborate in hopes their coming together musically will inspire fans.  The extra vibes fans feel from the song is an extension of the two recording in Jamaica.

The title for the album, Plead My Cause, is seen as a continuation of the international success Junior X received when his 2002 hit song of the same name was released. “I’ve been through a lot in my career from then until now.  Just as the people go through issues is the same way I go through issues.  On this album, we go through life together,” the artist said during his photo shoot in Boston, Massachusetts.

The video for the song was shot on location in Jamaica and features the artists understanding of the hardships everyday people go through.

The Album ‘Plead My Cause’ is also available on iTunes:  http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/plead-my-cause/id424610669

About Junior X:

When the call is sounded for music warriors to assemble, one dedicated soldier rises; Junior X – Prince of the Battlefield!  Using his faith inRastafari, and the brilliance of lyrics that resonate with listeners, Junior X moves to eliminate negativity through story telling in song.

In 2005, Junior X stormed the music charts and radio playlists around the world with his singles “Plead My Cause,” “Freedom” and “Seek Your Goal".  Subsequent to signing with Revolutionary Entertainment in 2010, Junior X released the single entitled “The Pill” which was a huge success, landing on music charts in Jamaica, the United States and Canada.  Shortly after the release of the single, the video, which was directed by Nordia Rose, was released and also found its way on several charts. The video enjoyed airplay on CVM TV’s Hit List show, Reggae Chart, RETV MVP Charts, Suzie Q’s Video Alley Reggae Top Ten as well as Canada’s Much Music.

Junior X is currently travelling to promote his album and is available for interviews, live performances and appearances by emailing djl@revolutionaryentertainment.net or L3Publicity@gmail.com.

Rick Ross is coming to Toronto!

Rick Ross's Toronto, Canada fans will be happy to know the artist returns to the city on December 22nd, 2011!

Roberts/Ross founded the record label Maybach Music Group, on which he released his studio albums Deeper Than Rap and Teflon Don.

The December 22nd event (“Event”) is a “special event” at one of Toronto’s most historical venue with the hottest R&B artist currently #2 on the Billboard charts. The concept for the Event is to introduce the hottest R&B artist in the world and present him to an audience which craves the slow and energetic genre of music in Canada. Headlining the event will be RICK ROSS a multi-talented song writer, producer, and artist. This event will also feature the best in Soca, R&B, and Hip Hop acts throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
TEFLON DON is more than just the title of the new fourth album by Def Jam recording artist Rick Ross – it’s a title of respect earned the hard way by the man who ruled Miami’s underground rap scene, and then came out of the shadows to make the three biggest scores of his career – when his first three albums all entered the Soundscan chart at #1 in 2006 (Port Of Miami), 2008 (Trilla), and 2009 (Deeper Than Rap).

In the heat of the summer, the 12-track TEFLON DON arrives June 29th on the Boss’ Maybach Music label, bringing some serious fireworks to the Independence Day blow-up.  The album’s first single pick, “Super High” featuring fellow Def Jam artist Ne-Yo, debuts at radio and across the Internet today – it will officially impact at Urban radio formats on May 3rd and at Rhythm radio formats on May 10th.

RICK ROSS LIVE
Thursday, December 22nd, at 7pm / Sound Academy, Polson Pier
Tickets $80.50 - $51.50 / 855.985.5000 or visit the Sound Academy Box Office
