L3
Magazine – June Issue ft. Leftside Dr. Evil
Chedda
| Askelle | Tanya Carter | Roots Queen and More!
The summer
season is upon us, and L3 Magazine’s front cover feature, Leftside Dr. Evil gives us a lot to talk about! Natasha Von Castle met up with the artist
while in Toronto, and the multi talented producer and artist allowed her to go
in depth as she explored how he got his start in music, and what it felt to
work with legends Gregory Isaac, Dennis Brown and John Holt from such a young
age. Question: do you think about Gregory and Dennis when
you make music today?
Beyond that,
Leftside shares his feelings on producing some of the most significant riddims
of our times, as well as his work with Don Corleon and Elephant Man on the
famous song “Pon the River.” Of all the
instruments Leftside could specialize in, he chose the drums. Where did he get his first set of
drums?! That answer led to a great story
and one that will have readers talking for some time!
Dancehall
artist Chedda took some time off and
is back with a more developed sound.
Tricia ‘ZJ Sparks’ Spence sat down with the artist and asked about some
of the lessons he’s learned so far. His
answer in short is ‘experience teaches wisdom’ which is a refreshing surprise from
an artist just touching his 20’s.
Extending
her contribution, Tricia gives us an exclusive look at producer Askelle who is the creator of several hit
Dancehall riddims associated to famous producers. What makes Askelle’s story significant is his
fight to receive credit for his work and the fact that he is visually
impaired. This is a man who truly sees
music.
Heike
Dempster gives us a look at the Jamaica
Charity Ball held in Florida. From
the attendees to the auction, we have highlights from this very high profile
event including photos by Alex DeLaet Photo.
Our travel
editor Stacia Von Castle traveled to the historic city Andalusia, Spain which was founded by the Moor’s. Photos from her trip and historical
background are included this month.
Additional musical
features include Tanya Carter, Mighty
Mystic, Kranium, Meta and the Cornerstones and Roots Queen whose music is making a global impact on radio and
placing them centre stage. We also review the hottest new releases and
include the latest charts.
Our
centerfold, as shot through the lens of Jerome
Dupont for New Era Photography, is Teresa
Brooks who looks stunning against the backdrop of the ocean and sunset. Jimmy
Tambu gives us a sweet recipe for Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies, and in
technology news, did you know the Walkman is back?! It sure is!
