CARIBANA™, founders of the annual Toronto Caribbean carnival in 1967, will launch the 13th annual children’s carnival at the Food Court of Yorkgate Mall on Tuesday, June 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Yorkgate Mall is located at 1 York Gate Boulevard (Jane and Finch) North York, ON M3N 3A1.
At the launch, CARIBANA™ will team up with the management of Yorkgate Mall to announce plans for the 2013 children’s carnival that puts a positive focus on the Jane and Finch community. They will announce the date of CARIBANA™ Flags and Colours, the names of the Jane and Finch student recipients of the Caribana/Yorkgate Mall Scholarships, Yorkgate Mall's participation in the event and Caribana's new approach to reaching more children in the community. They will also unveil the theme and slogan for this year's festival.
In addition to the formal announcements, there will be Caribbean-themed entertainment, which includes the Cedarbrae C.I. steel band quartet. Refreshments will be provided to our guests.
Invited guests include His Worship Mayor Rob Ford; Ward 8 councillor, Anthony Perruzza; York West MP, Judy Sgro; 31 Division Commander, Supt. Dave McLeod; area school principals and representatives from community centres and other groups in the area.
Now in its 46th year, CARIBANA™ focuses on the Caribbean carnival arts and their potential to create positive change in the lives of our children. This year one of the organization’s goals is to have 500 children in the parade that highlights the carnival.
CARIBANA™ continues to have a significant impact on the culture, economy and social development of Canadian society.
