Toronto International Music Summit Update!

HOMETOWN HERO, KARDINAL OFFISHALL, AND FASHION ICON, ULA ZUKOWSKA JOIN THE TORONTO INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SUMMIT

Four-time Juno award winner, Kardinal Offishall has been confirmed as a guest speaker for the conference portion of this year's Toronto International Music Summit, taking place at the Royal York Hotel on May 26, 2012! One of the hardest working men in the business, Kardinal has ASCAP and SOCAN awards to his name, along with 4 MMVAs. His unique twist on hip-hop, high-energy stage performances and charismatic persona have seen him perform at Princeʼs Trust Fashion/Rock show, that was broadcast to over 400 million viewers in over 70 countries worldwide and in Malaga, Spain to over 250,000 people. In addition to his top notch performances he has incurred well over 46 million views for his music video "Dangerous" on YouTube which ranks as one of the most viewed hip-hop videos online! Reputed as Canadian fashion’s conceptualist, Ula Zukowska has drawn inspiration for her collections from such hard-hitting muses as a devastated Mother Earth and despair in life’s volumes. Against a backdrop of a world in dissonance, the designer continues her signature experiments with form and fabric, creating fashions that echo folding structure. Kardinal Offishall - Ole Time Killin Pt. II

Kardinal Offishall a.k.a. Mr. International has struck again with an international sound system anthem called

"Ole Time Killin Part II."

Set to a 2011 version of the Sleng Teng riddim, Kardinal and producers tweak the riddim giving it more horns. They also lay back on the skank to where it can just about be heard under Kardi when he delivers the lyrics:

"Man an man talk bout eye for an eye / in the blink of an eye see my enemy die / bye bye / I an I walk with

the most high / talk with the most high / holding my head to the sky / when a sound bwoy try / somebody

tell ah bwoy we don't take back no talk / do what you want and say what you want but the 45 deya pon caulk ..."

As this is a sound system anthem, we know that the 45 Kardi refers to is a vinyl record!

Apart from the vicious lyrics Kardi uses to slaughter a sound system, the appeal to the chune is the contrast

of tempo of the riddim (slower), and the delivery of lyrics (rapid). Other appealing antics are the sections where the audience participates such as Kardi saying 'Kardinal fans don't applaud they 'brap brap!'

Long time friend and collaborator Lindo P's supporting vocals are heard throughout the anthem making this one of the best for 2011.

Single-handedly, Kardi has captured the essence of what t is to be a sound man / woman who is blood thirsty to kill another sound.

2011 has announced itself prominently in terms of musical happenings in Canada.  What was in play in December, 2010 is no longer in play; as quickly as it charted is as quickly as it disappeared.  An example of this is the Carla Marshall song “Change Da Dress.”  We did say Canada is the ‘wild west’ of music!

Lenn Hammond and Busy Signal continue to hold #1 spots, and new entries put pressure on, or removed existing songs.  Buckle up, and enjoy the bumpy ride called the ‘Canada Wide Music Charts!’

Please note:  A song becomes a new entry if voted in by the DJ’s.

The charts are compiled by votes from Radio personalities in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia (the equivalent of saying California to New York).  Each DJ’s vote carries a weight of 60% of a songs ranking on the charts.  After the DJ’s cast their votes, voting is then opened to artists, managers and fans which holds a weight of 40% of the songs ranking on the charts.
