HOTTT New Reggae! Iba Mahr – Great is H.I.M.!

One of the most prolific voices to come out of Jamaica from the next generation of Culture Reggae artists is the voice of Iba Mahr.

Coming from Linstead, St. Catherine, Iba’s voice is rising to significance as he sings only of true righteousness and upliftment which is having a growing influence on younger generation Rasta’s, both Baldhead and dreads.  It’s hard to believe that this artist with such a commanding voice is in his young 20’s!

The first single being shared is called “Great is H.I.M.” The song has received critical acclaim within Jamaica, and helped to earn the young artist an appearance on the Reggae Sumfest stage.

Drawing on the energy of the teachings of Haile Selassie, and Iba’s own overstanding (which includes his outlook on a positive livity), Iba encourages listeners with these lyrics:

So great is Him, great is the king of all kings / giver of life / for black / for white / for red green and gold / Ethiopia stands bold / while Marcus prophecies unfold / never you wait for the time is now / can’t wait till judgement come / tomorrow never forward / tomorrow never forward / in my Father’s house there are many mansions / and if it wasn’t so / then I wouldn’t say so…

Placing those lyrics on an intensely bass driven riddim, the chune is an ultimate praise chune to Jah.

Full of conscious lyrics, “In My World”, addresses topics such as love, social, political and economical issues. One such conscious track is entitled “Down a Yard”,a song which speaks about Jamaicans wanting to go to foreign in pursuit of a better life. According to Jah Van I, who has travelled overseas and developed fan bases in islands such as Martinique, “Nobody wants to stay a yard anymore, but there is no where like yard”.... “Nough tings a gwaan. No love no whey like yard”. Other explosive singles from the 12 track album includes “Reggae Music”, “Home Alone” and “Hello Suzy”, a love song.

Part of $3m in prizes offered throughout the season, Gregory’s winnings also includes $200,000 worth of sewing equipment from Singer which he has already received. He’s also opened a business account at NCB with a $500,000.00 cash contribution from the bank that will fund his HOD Designs fashion line. Come Fashion’s Night Out (Thursday September 6) fans will get a preview of his designs at SOHO Boutique. The items will be available for sale in December. The show’s host and executive producer Keneea Linton-George explains the change, “When we thought about it, it just made sense. Gregory’s focus should be on school and mastering the skills necessary to become a top-class designer. At the end of our last season, he had to create a collection for Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) and viewers saw upfront how challenging that was. We want to spare him the pressure and have him focus on his studies which will also take him to Paris.”

Apart from his College of Fashion classes, Gregory will apprentice with Trinidad-born bespoke Tailor Andrew Ramroop who has dressed prominent men including members of the Royal Family, parliamentarians and entertainers such as Jay-Z and Will Smith.

Gregory, a former Saint International model, was considered one of the most outspoken contestants on the 13-episode show, which featured participants from around the region. Voted fan favorite by Jamaican viewers he snagged the title with his cohesive collection of sexy and edgy pieces which he presented at CFW along with three other finalists on June 8. He was announced as winner of the show on June 19.

Since then Gregory has been busy designing for his regular clients, attending fashionable events and contributing to the wardrobe of Miss Jamaica World 2012 Deanna Robins. He also created a look for the Jamaica 50 fashion show at the Jubilee Village in the National Stadium.

Fans will get an update of Gregory's achievements as well as his LFW 2013 presentation on Season 3 of Mission Catwalk. Casting for the show begins in December. For more information visit facebook.com/missioncatwalktv

In Bunny Rugs Time!

Bunny Rugs wants to make great Time for his fans. Time, the new solo album from the lead singer of international pop reggae band Third World is a Time for listening fun and reflection. Bursting at the seams with talent, Rugs’ 15-track album will in no Time at all be a sound track to affairs of the heart as well as soldiers of conscious reggae worldwide. Here, Bunny’s seductive soulful reggae melodies provide an anchor to jazzy vocal experimentation and cool bass, drum, sax and piano riffs. Time practically stands still as one after another of Jamaica’s most respected musical minds--Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare (Sly & Robbie), Dean Fraser, Mikie Bennett, Dean Pond and Richard Bell (Star Trail), to name a few--contribute creative direction for Bunny Rugs’ artistic talents. Don’t waste any more Time, the album will be in stores September 11 on Rugs’ label imprint, Raw Edge Productions, and distributed exclusively by VPAL, a subsidiary of VP Records, the #1 international source for the best reggae music.

Those familiar with the Third World band (“96 Degrees In The Shade”, “Reggae Ambassador”) will undoubtedly recognize the inspirational vocal style that Rugs helped to translate into a signature international pop sound. Songs on Bunny’s solo album including “Don’t Give It Up”, “Never Gonna Give Up” and all boast that quintessential roots rock reggae sound. Shining bright is the adult contemporary “Heaven Sent – Dat Feeling”, the soft reggae rock heard in the message music on “Bed Of Roses” and the easy pop listening evoked by “What Kind Of Man”. Bunny’s compelling plea for “Solutions” was recorded in the popular gospel tradition with Nyabinghi drumming, emotive background vocals and a delicate soulful guitar solo allowing Bunny to make it his own.
