L3 Magazine’s August Issue ft. Alaine, King Addies, Ajrenaline

L3 Magazine’s August issue is finally here and features one of Reggae’s most loved singers, Alaine Laughton, one of the Sound Clash arena’s most respected (and feared) sounds, King Addies and one of Jamaica’s fastest rising stars, Ajrenaline.

Speaking exclusively to Tricia ‘ZJ Sparks’ Spence, Alaine opens up to the L3 audience about maintaining her stunning physique, how prayer helps to influence her music and similarities between her and Alicia Keys.  Alaine also shares a touching experience during an interview in Jambi, Kenya who was “calling about cows and goats in exchange for marriage!”

When it comes to the Sound arena, one of the most respected sounds is King Addies.  Now being managed by Irish and Chin, Natasha Von Castle sat down with King Pin to talk about the expectations that Sound Clash fans have of King Addies, and the Sounds upcoming performance at World Clash in their home town of New York.  The two also talk about the Biltmore era and how that helps the Sound in Clash today and the fact that “you want to win and lock off the other sound; that’s your goal.”

Ajrenaline is one of Jamaica’s fastest rising sensations, and he speaks to Tricia ‘ZJ Sparks’ Spence about music and where he is within the industry right now.  How does his future look and what moves will he be making soon?  All this and more are revealed!

Artists in focus include Bryan Art and Sustane who will each be performing at the Montreal International Reggae Festival later this month, as well as Yung Image and one of Toronto’s promising vocalists, Kash who is ‘kalling all Soldiers home.’  Making their debut from New York is Ahkee and Sojournah who represent the Roots Reggae culture!  Also making an appearance is DJ Naz Gurl Power who is our DJ feature of the month!

Additional sections of interest are L3’s Top Digital Downloads and Rico Vibes Video Charts.  Music review of Chezidek, Red Fox and Bushwood are included as s the latest music releases of albums, riddims and mixtapes.  The model of the month / centerfold is shot through the lens of Jerome Dupont who make the color yellow, combined with a multi-color sequins pop for the camera.

Jimmy Tambou offers delicious vegan recipes and Heike Dempster walks us through Free Art Fridays in Miami, and in California, we get familiar with Subliminal Projects and their feature of BDX-LAX ‘Far Away so Close.’  New York’s own Rick Long, choreographer to the stars makes an appearance as does a review for Groovin in the Park.

All of this and more are available in the July issue of L3 Magazine which can be read exclusively at www.L3Magazine.com!

Montreal International Reggae Festival Closes the 2012 Season with a Sold Out Audience!

The 2012 Montreal International Reggae Festival season comes to an end on a high note, seeing a sold out audience pack the Old Port for 3 days of sweet Reggae and Dancehall from the Caribbean’s best artists.

Fans were given a variety of talent and themes to enjoy.  Night one, deemed Dancehall night, featured Cham and his Wife O.  Canada’s #1 DJ, DJ Poirier, who also hails from Montreal, rocked the crowd with a combination of musical selections from Shabba Ranks, General Degree and Busy Signal.  Joining the veteran DJ on stage was Juno Nominee Face-T who slick Dancehall delivery had the audience chanting for more, as did the fiery presentation and performance of Fire Lion who had patrons form the Usain Bolt pose during his performance.

The official after party was enjoyed by Sound Clash diehards who backed EB Lounge to witness Rootsman from Toronto, Showtime from New York and hometown favorite Little Thunder battle each other for the favour of the crowd.  Toronto’s Rootsman Sound won the Clash taking all three rounds played.

Night two featured Konshens, whose chart topping singles “Gyal Ah Bubble,” “Ah So Mih Tan,” and “Good Girl Gone Bad” earned the screams and cheers from his adoring female fans, and fire salutes from the male fans in attendance.  Another crowd pleaser was Christopher Martin who had to wheel up his sizzling song “Cheaters Prayer” several times, and the newest Dancehall sensation, Popcaan worked the stage and the crowd into a frenzy.  Hotta Maestro also touched the crowd prior to Assassin who’s moving performance called for encore’s.

Night three, Reggae night, featured Romain Virgo and his soul moving song “Who Feels it Knows it” had the audience singing along with him.  Tarrus Riley, backed by Ruff Cut band gave fans so much of what they wanted to hear, tweets about Mr. Singy Singy were sent the moment he was announced to be at the venue to the end of his set.  Fans knew every word to every song, and acted as his backing choir when he performed “Stay With You” which was truly moving.

Froggy Madd Squad had the audience in festive spirits, opening for Jimmy Cliff!  His set include Reggae anthems that had lighters and flags in the air!  Remembering the milestone of Jamaica’s 50th year of Independence from Great Britain, the Madd Squads leader included rare Festival music from his music library, impressing fans both mature and young!

Undoubtedly, Jimmy Cliff was the shining crescendo to an already perfect Festival.  Donned in his red green and gold scarf and leather suit, the legend and Order of Merit holder gave Montreal his heart and soul as he performed his hits that made him famous (“Many Rivers to Cross,” “Reggae Nights” and “Miss Jamaica”) as well as songs from his new album recently released.

Backed by his band, Jimmy reminded all of the years he’s put into the industry, and his undeniable role in shaping the path that others have followed.  He is truly a legend!

Look out for the Montreal International Reggae Festival 2013 where Eric Blagrove, the Festival’s producer, celebrates 10 years with surprises and feature presentations!

In the meantime, all updates will be posted at www.montrealreggaefest.com, or by following @MTLReggaeFest and @L3Magazine on Twitter!

Ammoye is Canada's Female Artist of the Year!

If you had asked Ammoye 2 years ago what her musical life would look like in 2011, she wouldn’t have been able to give you an answer.  Today, she smiles humbly as the news continues to sink in that she is the 2011-2012 Female Artist of the Year.

The honor comes from the recently held Achievement Awards for Reggae music which took place in Toronto on Saturday June 4th, 2011.  “I am so happy,” said Ammoye.  “I’m happy that we were able to achieve this.  We did it as a team so this award is for all of us!”

Winning the award comes as a pre-curser to Ammoye’s busy schedule.  Her latest studio projects which are produced by Danny Maestro, Kemar ‘Flava’ McGregor and Tony Anthony, sees the singer give fans more one drop Reggae.  The artist also has a busy performance schedule as she takes the stage on three of Canada’s most high profile events being Jamaica Day – Toronto, Jambana and the Montreal Reggae Festival.  She also leaves for Serbia’s Exit Festival where she will perform for 150,000 fans over three days.  It doesn’t stop there!

Ammoye will be releasing an EP in September called ‘Bad Gyal’ which is being executive produced by Dubmatix.  The EP will be the prelude to her album which is scheduled to be released in 2012, and builds on the heels of the success of her album ‘Haffi Win’ which was produced by Ottawa’s Rise Ashen for the Balanced Records label.

Ammoye will be one of the featured artists performing at the NXNE event in Toronto at Lula Lounge on June 15th!  Fans can preview / play Ammoye's debut hit single "Lost Love" produced by Courtney John by clicking on the link below!
