In addition to the welcome reception and Music Festival, organizers have incorporated activities for children which include art and craft workshops using material ancestors would have used at the time of British colonialism.  For parents, pavilions of French, Spanish and English influence will also be on display, highlighting each countries contribution to the culture of the island.

As for the location of the festival, the Plymouth Recreational Grounds is picturesque and sits slightly elevated above the Caribbean Sea, making the view and the back drop of artists’ performances stunning.  Locals say it is one of the most romantic locations in the Caribbean, thus making it alluring!

Ammoye, Courtney John, Marcia Griffiths, Beenie Man and More Jump for Jamaica!

Artists unite to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence from Great Britain, encouraging listeners to ‘Jump for Jamaica.’

Produced by Courtney John for the FiWi Music label, “Jump for Jamaica” is a signature song released in commemoration of Jamaica’s jubilee anniversary.  Featuring artists such as Marcia Griffiths, Beenie Man, Kreesha Turner, Cherine Anderson, Mr. Lexx, Kardinal Offishall, Ammoye and more, the project is special in part because of its’ cross geographical reach.

As a first of its kind, the “Jump for Jamaica” song features premier artists from Jamaica (Marcia Griffiths, Courtney John, Mr. Lexx, T.O.K., Etana, Beenie Man and Cherine Anderson), as well as Canada.  Hip Hop Icon Kardinal Offishall adds his patois infused Bakardi slang, while Canada’s songbird, Ammoye, lends her smooth vocals singing “out of many people / we are one / come together / old and young ….”

By participating on this song, Ammoye makes Canadian Reggae history as being the only female Reggae singer from Canada to perform with legendary artists Beenie Man, Marcia Griffiths, Cherine Anderson and Courtney John together on the same song.  Ammoye will also join the Gala event being held at the Sony Centre for the performing arts to perform the song with the legendary artists.

When asked about her contribution to the song, Ammoye said “this project reflects our pride as a people, our solidarity as a people, and the worlds’ recognition of our people!  This is our time to shine, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to do so with so many great Jamaicans!”

Included to represent the Jamaican Canadian voice are Steele, M’Lonie, Jay Douglas, Leontre and Leonardo Charmichael.  Collectively, the chorus of voices does the island proud!

“Jump for Jamaica” is available for preview via YouTube here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boPPCwR9iho.

Double Celebration for Gramps Morgan in New York!

With the official release of his album Reggae Music Lives, and his Earthstrong right around the corner, Gramps Morgan makes July 6th, 2012 a double celebration for fans in New York!

Hosted by CDF Sound, Culture Disciples and Akee & Dumplin Music, Gramps Morgan takes centre stage at Brooklyn’s Culture Barn where he will be backed by his band as well as special guest DJ’s.  In addition to the Grammy Award winning and International Reggae recording artists performance, rising Roots Reggae Empress Khalilah Rose will share the stage.

Khalilah, whose music has been featured in XXL, All Hip Hop.com and L3 Magazine, as well as BBC Three Counties in the UK, Hot 98 FM in Guyana and 1430 AM in Atlanta, has been receiving international recognition in Media as well as on radio causing Gramps Morgan to say “I’m definitely looking forward to working with Khalilah.  I like the music she’s been releasing, and she’s definitely an artist I think will go far.”

Gramps released his second studio album Reggae Music Lives to critical acclaim as being one of the best releases for 2012.  It is noted as being an evolution of Gramps' professional and musical growth expressed through his singing, narratives, arrangements and compositions. His melodies and hooks are seasoned with mature, worldly lyrics that are delivered flawlessly. All of his experiences have culminated in the creation of a universal sound that he says stems from exposure.

Angelic harmonies, authentic compositions and a unique sound brand, Gramps calls "Rockaz," Reggae Music Lives is more than Reggae, it's world-beat, with a little bit of country, a taste of what Americans call rap-Jamaicans call it toasting; mix it with a hint of r 'n' b, a dash of blues synthesized with contemporary reggae that maintains the integrity of the original art form and you get a sense of the musical accents that help to make Reggae Music Lives complete.  Because of this, the album is being spoken of as a 2013 Grammy contender.

Additional music will be supplied by Vaughn All Star, DJ Gringo and Stateside Revolution, and complimentary CD’s will be given away to patrons who walk with a copy of the flyer for the event.  For more information about the show, fans can call 347-382-4295.
