King of the Dancehall Beenie Man Joins Shaggy and Mr. Vegas at MIRF!

For ten years The Montreal International Reggae Festival (MIRF) has been the biggest consistent offering of reggae culture in Canada; and in full celebratory mode MIRF has enhanced its programming to include workshops that will run on August 14, 15 and 16. The traditional three days of music ensue on August 16, 17 and 18 at the Old Port of Montreal.

In rounding out the complete roster of headlining artists for this 10th anniversary, Friday night will also feature: Chris Combette, Inword and Downtown Crew.  Originally from French Guyana, Chris Combette is famous for his rhythmic Antillien-African style. The multiple award winner boasts 2 French Guyanese Lindor awards and his most notable albums are, Dance Flora and Children of Goree. These artists will join Morgan Heritage, who was previously announced.

Labeled ‘King of the Dancehall’ Beenie Man augments the Saturday night line-up with his MIRF debut performance. Largely responsible for the international ascension of the dancehall genre, Beenie Man has been winner of 8 consecutive awards. His Grammy nominated album, Many Moods of Moses includes the globally applauded single, Who Am I.  Currently one of Jamaica’s most celebrated female dancehall artists, Tifa is also slated to heat up the dancehall stage. The captivating performer has an impressive repertoire of chart topping hits including the street anthem Spell It Out. Hawkeye and Canadian based Ras Out and Dahlia will also join the previously publicized Dancehall Night headliners: Kes (The Band), Mr. Vegas and Shaggy.

Alaine will be a part of the stellar roster for MIRF’s closing night. The classically trained singer/songwriter made her mark in the reggae music industry with numerous hits including the single Love Sound, a collaboration with Beres Hammond that was featured on Sly and Robbie’s Grammy nominated Rhythm Doubles album. Montreal’s highly acclaimed, Jah Cutta, along with Visionary, Prestige and Bryan Art will also grace Sunday’s stage with the previously released artists: Coco Tea; Freddie McGregor and Yellowman.

Montreal’s Pharaoh Freeman and Hidden Colors will facilitate a workshop, focusing on the theme “Empowering Our People" The value of a powerful self-image.  They join the earlier revealed musicologist, Roger Steffens and filmmaker, Hélène Lee who will engage participants in interactive presentations on “The Reggae World: Spreading Out” and the movie “Le Premier Rasta” respectively.

Wild Bubble Riddim from ZJ Chrome

It seems as if there is no slowing down for Jamaica’s top disc jockey turned producer ZJ Chrome. Under the helm of Cr203 Records, he has once again delivered a fresh sound whose title best explains the untamed and delicate music known as "Wild Bubble" riddim.
The raw energy emanating from the riddim is complimented by the same rawness of dancehall top artists such as billboard chart topping Popcaan with "Food Haffi Run" or Dancehall deejay Konshens "On Your Face". The "Wild Bubble" riddim gives music lovers a taste of the wild untamed street parties while the beat taps into your primitive instinct.
Dancehall Diva "Tifa", hardcore "Aidonia", the energy God "Elephant Man", Talented and humble "Bugle", outspoken Ladies favorite "Tony Matterhorn", rising artist "Blaq Diamon", Dynamic group "Voicemail", Tommy Lee and a track by Gaza Slim & "World Boss" Vybz Kartel make up this 19 tracks album now available for sale on itunes distributed by 21st Hapilos Digital. The album offers both raw and radio friendly version of the songs to be enjoyed from the dance floor to your personal mp3 device.
Although ZJ Chrome has numerous hits on his roster, it is the single “Clarks” performed by international dancehall star "Vybz Kartel" who gave him world wide recognition. The song remained on the charts for over 40 weeks and was used in international Television. ZJ Chrome is a resident DJ on one of Jamaica's top station "Zip FM". Playing the hits gave him an appreciation for music, and having studied Music Production and Audio Engineering in college gave the the technical tools to create some of today's hottest hits!

Certified Diva's invade Margaritaville!

To be 'certified' means having been proved by way of a certificate, or, being guaranteed and reliably endorsed.  Imagine our pleasant surprise when we received the flyer entitled 'Certified Divas' who will be performing live at Margaritaville in Jamaica on June 25th, 2011!

Without doubt, Dancehall Diva, Lady Saw is absolutely certified.  This female powerhouse has been releasing hit songs since the 1980's, and has worked with the most notable producers and fellow artists.  Dancehall Diva's from the younger generation include Tifa (who this year won several awards including the Youth View Awards held in February, 2011), Spice (whose single "Romping Shop" with Vybz Kartel dominated the charts 2 years ago), Tami Chynn (who regularly enjoys giving her fans live performances in Europe and Japan, and has YouTube views in the millions), and the newby on the block, Shalli who is steadily gaining grounds in Canada, the Caribbean and in Europe.

Together, these Diva's will be entertaining fans at one of the most exciting night spot in Jamaica.  Check the flyer below for details!

♠ HOTTT New Music! ♠ Tifa + King Turbo!

Greetings!

Tifa and ZJ Chrome have a brand new release on the Dancehall EFX riddim which is certified murdah!  Known for her provocative and true lyrics which are always riddled with positive punch lines Tifa drops this especially for the ladies:

yuh ave fih know how fih care it / do exercise / nuh
wear an tear it / nuh give no loose ride!

The name of the chune is "Good Up" which speaks to the vibes of the chune and the riddim!
Make sure you request the chune from your favourite radio station, in the Dancehall and from mixtape Kings and Queens!

Canada is still developing when it comes to sound systems who qualify to be representatives
on the international stage.  If I am to be totally honest, I would say we have two.  Of those two, one set the foundation for the younger generation and that would be King Turbo!

Born in Scarborough, the sound was the first of the younger generation to have a studio for
voicing dubplates, mixed tapes that reached all corners of the world, and two radio shows.
Both shows are still on the air, one on 89.5 FM and the other on 93.5 FM.  King Turbo was
one of the first sound systems to put Canadian artists on the international map.  Lindo P and
Blessed are just two examples.

I should also mention that when I decided to leave my practice as a Paralegal in Entertainment Law, King Turbo gave me my first job as their manager.  Believe me, our roots go deep!

So why all the history?  Sometimes it's good to know who you're playing with before you even
start! Spex stopped by our offices this week to personally drop off the latest mixes which show off why they are, and always will be the King!

♥ HOTTTTT New Dancehall! ♥ Tifa - Nah Stop Shine!

Greetings!

Hate is defined as 'to dislike intensely or passionately.'
If everyone were to be obvious, we would know when
hate is rearing its' ugly head, but 'haters' have found
a way to disguise their true emotions; they do so by
pretending to be your friend, but behind your back
it's a different story.

Dancehall Diva Tifa blazed a HOTTTTT new Dancehall
chune called "Nah Stop Shine" which talks about these
haters, and shuts them up permanently!

Pree dih lyrics:

"All of a sudden everybody gotta problem with me
rising to the top / mih seh all of a sudden everybody
who used to love me don't like me..."  Tifa goes on to
say "Whe dem grudge mih fa / yo ah dat mih really
waan know / caw mih nah see dem when me work an
ah hustle fih mih doe..."  Kaboom!

Tifa doesn't disappoint an inch as she articulates
what many think about some haters.  Why hate?
With air tight lyrics, a certified flow and a HOTTT
Dancehall riddim, Tifa gets this chune 'oh so right!'

Produced by Fedda Weight Music on the Mento
riddim, and broadcasting at 320kbps, and speaking
for me today, catch Tifa's new chune "Nah Stop
Shine!"

P.S.  If I didn't know better, I would swear Dancehall
Diva Tifa somehow got into my head and made a
chune based on my thoughts!
